A no-standing (or waiting) sign indicates that you may stop temporarily to get people in and out of your vehicle, but you may not park for an extended period of time. Unless there is a medical emergency, there are no stop signs at all times.
Unless you're collecting or picking up goods, you are not allowed to park in a loading zone. Heavy trucks are normally free to do this without issue, but if you're in a conventional passenger car, you may be forced to justify yourself.
Pedestrians have the right of way at designated crossings. It is prohibited to drive over a pedestrian crossing if someone is already on it or waiting to pass.
It is to be noted that Australian road speeds and distance are calculated in kilometers.
At a stop sign, you must hit the brakes, and if automobiles are approaching, you must give way to them. However, if you have slowed down, looked for oncoming traffic, and found the way clear, you are not required to come to a complete stop at a give way sign.
"No overtaking" is indicated by yellow and unbroken centre lines in the centre of the road.
